13 Yrs Old Racer Peter Lenz Killed at Indy
Date: Aug.29.2010

13-year-old motorcycle road racer Peter Lenz died Sunday after crashing his bike and getting run over by another motorcycle at Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the morning warmup session. He was a 9 time national road racing champion and was thought to have a very bright future in racing.
Peter is the youngest racer to die at the iconic raceway and the first since Indy racer Tony Renna was killed during a testing session in October 2003.

Pedrosa Wins Indy GP
Date: Aug.29.2010

Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa worked his way up from fourth on lap one and took the lead by accelerating past home hero - and pole sitter - Ben Spies on the main straight on lap 7 of 28, then rode to a comfortable 3.575sec victory unchallenged.
Spies held his own in second place for the rest of the race, marking his best ever grand prix finish and second podium of the year, after a third at Silverstone. MotoGP title leader Jorge Lorenzo, finished 3rd, his worst finish of the season. World champion Valentino Rossi, who had fallen three times over the weekend finished 4th.
The weather was hot and that created a slick surface on the bumpy racetrack, causing a lot riders to fall over the course of the weekend.

After 8 Killed, Desert Racing Resumes in So Cal
Date: Aug.24.2010

Off-road desert motorcycle racing in Southern California resumes a week after a race truck plowed into race fans in the same area, tragically killing eight people.

Jerry Grabow of the American Motorcycle Association says last week's tragedy was on the minds of organizers and riders alike at the Desert Scramble in the Mojave Desert's Johnson Valley. Grabow says representatives from the Bureau of Land Management were on hand and came away satisfied with the event's safety procedures.

1 Night, 3 Crashes, 2 fatalities in New York City
Date: Aug.22.2010

Two people were killed and two others seriously injured in three separate motorcycle accidents throughout New York City late Friday night and early Saturday morning, cops said.
The most serious incident occurred just before 12:30 a.m. when two riders on the same bike smashed into a wall on the FDR near Broad Street in Manhattan. Both victims were killed instantly.
Just 10 minutes later, a man crashed his cycle on the Van Wyck Expressway near the Nassau Expressway in Queens. The victim's leg was severed and was rushed to Jamaica Hospital.
The first collision was in Brooklyn when a 35-year-old man smacked into a car on Ocean Parkway near Avenue Y around 11:10 p.m. He was taken to Lutheran Hospital in stable condition

DUI Charges Dropped Against Indy Cop
Date: Aug.20.2010

A prosecutor said Thursday he is dropping drunken driving charges against an Indianapolis police officer accused in a crash that killed a motorcyclist because the officer's blood test wasn't properly obtained.

"We do not believe it's admissible," Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi said at a news conference, flanked by the city's police chief and public safety director.

Officer David Bisard still faces three felony charges stemming from the Aug. 6 crash, including one count of reckless homicide. Brizzi said he was confident Bisard could be prosecuted on those charges without the blood test.

Brizzi said the blood test showing Bisard had a blood-alcohol content more than twice Indiana's legal limit could not be used as evidence because it wasn't taken in a hospital by someone legally certified to do so, which is required by state law. Instead, a lab technician drew Bisard's blood at a clinic where officers generally are taken after they are injured, he said.Bisard's cruiser crashed into two motorcycles stopped at an intersection, killing one man and injuring two other people. A test showed he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.19, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08. Police said Bisard's car had its lights and sirens on.

Officers at the scene did not give Bisard a breath test, and his blood was drawn more than two hours after the crash. Prosecutors informed officials of the test results Aug. 9 and he was charged Aug. 11.
